2008 Leavenworth Trip

Well, we had the first day of Spring, but it's still pretty cold up here. Of course, the snow is retreating so we thought we would head over to our favorite little Bavarian-inspired town of Leavenworth, Washington. We jumped in the car early and headed over the partially snow-covered mountains.

On our way over we stopped and took out the sled for a little downhill action. The snow is pretty frozen and packed, so it was a little bumpier than we bargained for!

Of course, I couldn't let the kid have all the fun. Marjorie wisely stayed behind the camera lens and watched me rocket down the hill to the inevitable back-crunching lift-off over the humps.

With that taken care of, we drove the rest of the way to town.

We took a look at all the shops, which were pleasantly un-crowded because of the off-season.

Marjorie browsed in the quilting shops, and I checked out the local notices.

Then we had some amazing German food. Wow. No wonder Sergeant Shultz was fat!

Finally  We grabbed some pastries and some coffee, and then headed back home. We got stuck at the Pass on the way home for some avalanche control but we spent the time walking around the car and playing some games.

2008 Covington Library

Spring is starting to take a few tentative steps, with a few buds on the trees in the front yard and a little bit of color starting to peek through.

We haven't gone anywhere in a couple of weeks, Christina has been down with a cold. Today she's coming out of it so we walked a mile or so down to our new Public Library here in Covington.

Our Library closed last year for renovation, and we've been going through withdrawals!  Christina and I could spend DAYS at the Library, so we've been waiting with anticipation for the time we could come back to ours and not have to drive a a few miles more to another one. We have several around, but this one was worth waiting for.

They've added tons of space and books, new computers, better study rooms and a lot more. This morning they had a "Grand Opening" with shows, music and dance. The new place is just beautiful, and we left with five bags of books to read.
