Moving

There's nothing quite like moving. I've done it lots of times, both when I was young and then when I joined the military. It's different this time, though. I've been pretty stable (for me, anyway), staying in one place for almost ten years. Before that I was in one house for seven years - a record at that time.

But now I've moved, and not just a little. I've moved across the United States. This was a big deal for me. I liked the job I had, and I really liked our house and the area where we lived. My daughter liked her school, and we all enjoyed our church. But the offer gives me a new way to use my knowledge and presents some new challenges. So even though the money is roughly the same, off we go. I cleared it with the ladies prior to accepting the offer.

I took off last week after accepting an offer on our house, knowing my wife would have to close. She and I were both in the military, so we trust each other for those kinds of things.

Have you ever flown with a cat? I don't advise it. Ours hates me (actually she hates everyone) and so we determined that I would fly with the cat and my wife and daughter would bring the dog when they come out. So I had to get "kitty drugs" from the vet. They don't knock the cat out, they are just supposed to make her less stressed. Right.

I give the pills to her just before we head to the airport, since I have to put her in the carrying case when we leave the house. She doesn't like the bag, she doesn't like the airport, the two hour wait, the first flight, the layover or the second flight. She got a wild look in her eyes, bounced around in the bag, scratched and bit the sides, and would then pass out for about five minutes. Then she would wake up and repeat the process. She did this until we were about two hours from the final landing, then she finally gave up and went to sleep. It was all very entertaining.

Then I waited until my bags came out, rented the car, went to the corporate housing they set up for me, and drove to the appartment.  Finally I let the cat out.

So I met with the realtors, drove all over, found a house that costs way too much, and put in an offer. All within three days.

More to come.
