Seattle Art Museum Reopens

Last year we visited the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and at the end of summer we went to the Seattle Sculpture Garden. Both of these facilities are part of the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) which is located downtown. When I used to travel to Seattle I would visit the museum, but when we moved here last year it was closed for renovations. It opened this month again, so we took the bus from home to downtown to see it as a family.

Of course, whenever we visit the city we have to stop at the Public Market and get some freshly made cinnamon donuts, walk through the market and ogle all the fish and produce, and then stop at the top of Post Alley for some Seattle's Best coffee. Marjorie always gets a regular coffee (bo-ring), I get a double espresso in a tall coffee, and Christina gets a "Raspberry Mocha Kiss" which is an amazing amount of sugar and caffeine, topped off with a dark chocolate bar. She doesn't need sleep for a week after.

Seattle, like many cities, has decorated animals around the town. This year, it's pigs. It's realy neat to see the different ways that the artists decorate the statues.

We couldn't take any pictures inside of the Art Museum, and that's a real shame. There's simply no adequate way to describe all of the amazing art in the thousands of square feet. The art pieces range from Dutch paintings all the way through Native American woven baskets, and creations of glass and fabric. Marjorie especially liked the "Porcelain Room", which is almost too much to take in when you first enter. It's an absolute riot of dishes, flatware and artwork done entirely in porcelain. My favorite was the glass artwork, and Christina like the huge totem-pole room. There's also lots to touch and do as well.

We will definitely have to come back to take it all in.
